BIG DADDY KANE - SUN 23 OCT - PRINCE BANDROOM, ST. KILDA

KING ASIATIC NOBODY'S EQUAL

The dopest rhyme spitter and ghost writer from the 'Golden Era' of Hip Hop, Big Daddy Kane is simply a living legend!

Growing up in the notorious Bed-Stuyvesant neighbourhood of Brooklyn, Kane was educated first hand in the rapidly expanding culture of Hip Hop. He found strong influence in the lyrical proficiency of Grandmaster Caz from the Cold Crush Brothers and as a late teenager he joined a local group called the Juice Crew headed by legendary Marley Marl. During this time he was also a writer for many peers in the game, Biz Markie and Roxanne Shante who were also Juice Crew members. His first single in 1987 called ‘Raw’ was a nonstop barrage of abuse upon the mic without a pause for breath, Kane had proven he had what it took and stole centre spotlight from the Juice Crew only to pursue a solo identity. During the early 1990s, Jay-Z is known to have been Big Daddy Kane’s hype man, and Kane helped him early on in his career.

It's amazing to think that in a career spanning over 25 years Australia has never witnessed the magic of a Big Daddy Kane live show...that wait ends in October with a show promising to deliver all the classics that influenced countless MCs and defined to many a generation and lifestyle.

LONG LIVE THE KANE!

+ VERY SPECIAL GUESTS: Koolism w/ Plutonic Lab, Dialect & Despair and DJ Mike Who?

The Herd - Future Shade

Limited signed copies of the new album with bonus sticker on sale Fri 26th August.

It is the most complete realisation of the band’s vision, and their most carefully produced record to date. From a love of ‘90s hip hop (Red Queen Theory) to Eastern European soul (Grandma’s Song); from a Sufjan influence (My Sister’s Palace) to the incomparable (Signs of Life), Future Shade is underpinned by hip hop, but is not contained by any genre.

At their essence, The Herd have always explored the personal and the political: but the fury of a song like 77% has given way to the subtlety of a song like Shihaba, detailing a family member’s encounter with racist customs officials in Europe. The rage hasn’t dimmed though – it bubbles away, masked by melody, cheer and self-deprecating honesty. The same reason they’re loved by lawyers and labourers alike is on show here. The party band is back and sticking the knife in.

Books - new and restocks

Initially recognized for her unique graffiti and street artwork, Faith 47 is a self-taught artist who draws inspiration from her own intuitive political and existential questions. Her art takes on the form of metaphor. Both abstract and definitive in meaning, plucking at our heartstrings in harmonious and sometimes dark tones as she paints.Faith's images thrive on broken-down cars and old factories, dusty side roads of lost towns and inner-city alleyways. Her deep affinity with lost spaces allows her to gracefully bring attention to the most honest and humble of environments. Her interactions resonate with our fragility and our elusive relationship with dreams, memory, human interaction and urban decay.

Europe’s most notorious train crew, Monsters Of Art, celebrates 20 years of train havoc. It is with great pleasure that we honor their anniversary with a monster edition of ON THE RUN. Join us for a rare and privileged glimpse into the unruly world of MOAS. With over 200 pages that detail MOAS’s history and unique crew concept, along with classic tales from the train yard, including great escapes, writer beef, legendary busts, extreme graffiti feats, trains, trains and more trains. This is a must-have for all diehard fans of train graffiti.

Ghost is one of the last purveyors of the New York City train writing era. He has developed his own funky letter styles that defy convention. A mad bomber at heart, he thrashes out a few hundred throw-ups without a second thought. His styles possess that same casual blast, with a combination of loose letters and psychedelic cartoons that drip off the wall with his boogaloo charm.

Sabe is a true master of styles. Adept on many levels, he is able to switch between advanced mechanical compositions, bubble styles, throw-ups, characters and photo-realism with ease. With a ‘paint now, think later’ attitude he mixes up these styles to suit the occasion, leaving a legacy of playful hybrids that sit left of mainstream.
